About the program

The purpose of the Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act is to ensure that the threat of liability does not deter potential providers of anti-terrorism technologies from developing and commercializing products and services that could save lives. The SAFETY Act applies to a broad range of technologies including products, systems, services, and software, as well as combinations thereof. Examples of eligible technologies include: threat and vulnerability assessment services, sensors and sensor integration systems, detection systems, screening services, decision support software, security services, and crisis management systems. A listing of SAFETY Act approvals is maintained at www.safetyact.gov.

About the speaker
Bruce B. Davidson is the Director of the Office of SAFETY Act Implementation, Science and Technology Directorate, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Prior to joining the DHS in 2006, Mr. Davidson was a member in a metropolitan D.C. area law firm, with an emphasis on federal practice. He also had a distinguished career as a surface warfare officer and judge advocate in the U.S. Navy, which included service as a staff assistant (1993-1997) to the Honorable Walter B. Slocombe, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, and the Honorable Jan M. Lodal, Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy.
