In spite of all the external threats and internal bickering they must deal with, the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security deserve a “pat on the back” and a hearty 8th birthday cheer.
Their mission is critically important; their successes are vastly under-appreciated; and their critics are all too frequently ill-informed. Yet, the dedicated people of DHS persevere – and in almost every respect, we are a better country for it.
So, today we say Happy Birthday (or is it Happy Anniversary? Or both?) and express our thanks for what you do, seen and unseen, to protect America and the values, freedoms, and responsibilities we share as a nation.
